New Delhi: A day after his comments at the comedy show India’s Got Latent landed him into trouble, a team from the Mumbai Police visited Ranveer Allahbadia’s residence Tuesday. The matter was also raised in the Lok Sabha.

The influencer and podcaster, known as BeerBiceps, has experienced a significant drop in followers. Allahbadia has lost 72,000 followers on Instagram and 70,000 subscribers on YouTube.

His Instagram account @ranveerallahbadia saw a decline of 29,000 followers in two days, and his other Instagram account, @beerbiceps saw a drop of 43,000 followers.

Multiple complaints have been registered against the 31-year-old, who issued an apology on Monday after receiving backlash. Comedian Samay Raina and Apoorva Mukhija, known as the ‘Rebel Kid’ on social media, have also been named in the complaint registered in Assam. They are yet to issue a statement.

‘Reject vulgarity’

The episode featuring the comments by Allahbadia has been taken down on YouTube and a Parliamentary panel on information technology is discussing whether to summon the podcaster.

Rajya Sabha MP from Shiv Sena (UBT) Priyanka Chaturvedi has said she would raise the issue in the IT (standing) committee.

“I think with freedom of expression, the Constitution also imposes certain responsibility on us… I think there needs to be certain boundaries. I’ll raise this issue in the IT (standing) committee. The platforms must understand that you just cannot continue to make a profit out of us and you look for loopholes when there is time of being accountable…,” she told ANI.

Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske raised the issue in the Lok Sabha today, saying the government should evolve guidelines for content on such programmes on social media.

There are speculations that Allahbadia might also lose brand deals.

Earlier in the day, Singer B Praak, who was supposed to appear on Allahbadia’s podcast, posted a video message criticising the influencer for sending out a wrong message about Indian culture.

The singer also announced that he won’t be appearing on Allahbadia’s podcast.

“I was supposed to appear on a podcast, on Beer Biceps, and we cancelled that. Why? Since we are all seeing how pathetic his thinking is. The choice of words that he has used on Samay Raina’s show,” said the singer.

This is not it. Actor Mukesh Khanna also slammed the YouTuber for his vulgar comment.

“The audience should reject such content. And, if people can’t, then the government should do something. So that, no one, in the name of comedy, should speak vulgar things which can spoil the youth,” he said, on his YouTube channel.
