New Delhi: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s Thamma has become the second-most successful film in Maddock Horror Comedy Universe based on box office performance.

It has surpassed the lifetime collections of Bhediya (Rs 68.99 crore), and is projected to enter the Rs 100 crore club today, making it the second-highest-grossing film in the franchise behind Stree 2.

On Sunday (Day 6), Thamma collected Rs 13 crore at the domestic box office, showing a slight drop from its Saturday (Day 5) earnings of Rs 13.10 crore. The film, released in both Hindi and Telugu, has now clocked a total of Rs 91 crore in India. The Telugu version has contributed approximately Rs 70 lakh in six days.

Within Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe, Thamma has outperformed Stree (2018), Bhediya (2022), and Munjya (2024). However, it still lags behind Stree 2, which remains the franchise’s biggest success. Starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, Stree 2 achieved in just three days what Thamma managed in nearly a week. Its first Sunday collection of Rs 55.90 crore surpassed its opening day figure of Rs 51.80 crore, and the film entered the Rs 100 crore club within four days.

Stree 2 closed its domestic run with a staggering Rs 597.99 crore box office collection.

That said, Aditya Sarpotdar’s vampire comedy became the second-highest opener in Maddock’s horror-comedy slate. Thamma recorded an opening day collection of Rs 24 crore, far ahead of Stree (Rs 6.82 crore), Bhediya (Rs 7.48 crore), and Munjya (Rs 4 crore). It also marked the biggest opening of Ayushmann Khurrana’s career.

Thamma locked horns with Milap Zaveri’s romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, the other Diwali release, at the box office. While Thamma comfortably defeated them in pulling the crowd, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa, is also enjoying a good run at the ticket window. The film has earned Rs 41.25 crore in six days.

On Saturday, Thamma also overtook the lifetime box office earnings of Varun Dhawan and Jhanvi Kapoor’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari (Rs 60.35 crore).

Thamma also featured cameo appearances from other characters in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, including Dhawan himself.

As the fifth instalment in the MHCU, Thamma has further cemented Maddock Films’ reputation as a trailblazer in horror comedy cinema.

Amid Thamma’s success, Maddock Films announced Aneet Padda as the leading lady for its next project, Shakti Shalini, which is also part of its expanding Horror Comedy Universe. The confirmation comes as the studio revealed that the film, initially scheduled for a 2025 release, will now arrive in theatres in December of next year. Earlier, Kiara Advani was reported to play the lead role.
