At Murthal’s Resham Dhaba, a robot serves you samosas

Unlike most rival restaurants, Murthal's Resham Dhaba is famous not for its buttery-soft parathas but for its robot waiter.

New Delhi: Resham Dhaba in Sonipat’s Murthal has grabbed the internet’s attention for having a robot waiter serve food. A video of the robot serving samosas has gone viral on social media, leaving visitors as well as Internet users amused and amazed.

As the robot, with its flashing red eyes, makes its way to a table, children can be seen stopping to watch the machine, fascinated by the unusual sight.

“Waiter’s job gone! At Resham Dhaba in Murthal, Sonipat, customers are being served by a robot waiter instead of a human. The robot is delivering food directly to customers’ tables, leaving many visitors amazed,” posted an X user.

Welcome to Resham Dhaba!

But it’s not only the robot; the restaurant also features a small train, which stops at the required table to deliver food.

Sanjay Rana, manager of Resham Dhaba, told ThePrint that the idea was to make the restaurant stand out. For Rana, it was also about creating an experience and making it entertaining for the visitors. He shared that customers often take photos and selfies with the robot.

“There are over 50 dhabas in Murthal. So, why would anyone come to Reshma Dhaba? We got to offer something more. So, we are serving food via robot and train. They are both operated remotely,” Rana said over the phone, adding that it is an “example of how amazing and entertaining technological intervention can be.”

Rana said that, except for liquids, which the robot is not yet equipped to carry, it can serve almost everything on the menu. The dhaba is also planning to introduce another robot soon.

Once fully charged, the robot can work for around two hours. As per Rana, it was developed by a team from Bengaluru and has given a new edge to their restaurant.
