PORT LOUIS (Reuters) – Mauritius has reopened its international airport as the threat from Cyclone Garance eased, airport authorities said on Friday, two days after closing it.
Airports of Mauritius Ltd said operations would resume after the Mauritius Meteorological Services removed a storm warning for the archipelago.
Public sector employees were advised to resume work on Friday, the Ministry of Public Service said in a statement.
Authorities in the nearby French overseas territory of Reunion issued a “purple alert”, the highest level of threat warning, on Friday morning as the cyclone approached the Indian Ocean island with expected wind gusts of more than 200 kph (124 mph).
