New Delhi: Anurag Basu is returning to filmmaking after five years with Metro…In Dino. The film is a spiritual sequel to his 2007-hit Life in a…Metro, which captured the interconnected lives of nine individuals living in Mumbai.
The first look of Metro…In Dino was revealed through the teaser of its song, Zamaana Lage – composed by Pritam and sung by Arijit Singh and Shashwat Singh. Released just four days ago, the clip has already gathered over 12 million views on YouTube. Yet, amid the excitement around the song and Basu’s latest film, an emptiness lingers. Fans are unable to get over the absence of singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, better known as KK.
KK had lent his voice to two of the most iconic tracks from Life…in a Metro — Alvida and O Meri Jaan. He died of a heart attack in May 2022.
“Won’t be the same without KK’s vocals. Pritam and KK produced some of the greatest pieces like O Meri Jaan and Alvida. Hoping for a similar song in this album! Thank you Pritam,” wrote Instagram user rahulrome813 under Pritam’s post.
Another fan, i_m_n_i_k, wrote: “The only thing I miss the most is there will be no song of KK sir (legend gone too soon).” A third comment on the video read: “Pritam and Arijit Singh is good for this movie but KK is a legend. Miss you sir.”
User ifhadofficial summed up the collective emotion: “Pritam (has) still not found a replacement for KK. I think it’s impossible.”

The minute-long teaser video captures Mumbai’s new and evolved cityscape, which has undergone several changes since the release of Life in a…Metro 18 years ago. The full song will release later today.
With Qaiser Ul Jafri’s poignant lyrics in the backdrop, the teaser introduces the film’s main characters: Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal, Saswata Chatterjee, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi and Konkona Sen Sharma.
“The city takes away more than what it gives,” says a voiceover toward the end.
From the original cast of Life in a… Metro– which included Shilpa Shetty, Kangana Ranaut, Kay Kay Menon, Shiney Ahuja and Dharmendra – only Konkona Sen Sharma returns for the new film.
Sharing the teaser on Instagram, she wrote: “When music meets poetry… magic happens! #ZamaanaLage — a modern ghazal for today’s soul. #MetroInDino | Song drops 28th May | In cinemas 4th July.”
She also paid a heartfelt tribute to Irrfan, her co-star in Life in a… Metro: “Here’s to you, Irrfan. Miss you always.”
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Anurag Basu, and Taani Basu, Metro…In Dino is scheduled to release in theatres on 4 July.
