New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay Joseph’s son Jason Sanjay believes that his father will be proud of his directorial debut, Sigma. The film is about a rogue radio host-turned-treasure hunter played by Sandeep Kishan, who lands at the centre of a Rs 500 crore racket run by an underworld figure.
“I think you need more time to analyse the film. But he’ll like the film. He’ll be proud,” the 26-year-old said in an interview with Pearls Maaney’s YouTube channel.
Jason shared that his father does not react immediately whenever he shares something with him on the phone. He takes his time and is a quiet person.
“If I ask a question, he’ll take 10 seconds to respond,” he added.
Sometimes, when they are on the phone and his father is not responding instantly, he gets confused about whether he is still on the call.
“I know he’s quiet all the while. I’ll ask, ‘Did you cut the call, Appa?’ Think, come to your conclusion, and then call me, email me, or something,” he said.
Jason revealed that he had not shared the script with his father before starting the film. His grandfather, veteran filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar, also did not see the script. He shared the outline of the film but did not reveal the details of the storyline.
“I didn’t go into details because I also want them to see the film from a fresh point of view. That’s my goal,” he said in an interview with Galatta Plus.
Jason added that he tries to stay away from the constant chatter around his father as much as possible. Given his father’s role as CM, he tries to make sure that he safeguards the reputation of the family.
“I want to make sure I’m not doing anything in an inconsiderate manner which may offend anyone, because my father is the CM of the state,” he said.
Jason, while talking about his filmmaking influence, shared that Vijay’s films have influenced him while growing up. One of the films he watched the most was Pokkiri, released in 2007, which starred Vijay alongside Asin. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film revolves around Tamizh, played by Vijay, a hitman in Chennai’s underworld who joins the mafia even when members dislike him, and he falls in love with aerobics teacher Shruthi, who wants him to leave the crime life.
“More than the action, I loved the costumes he wore. I would wear similar ones and take pictures. Even the hairstyle too,” he said.
