New Delhi: Telugu superstar Allu Arjun was arrested Friday in connection with the death of a woman in a theatre stampede during the premiere show of his film Pushpa 2: The Rule at the Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on the evening of 4 December.

The woman’s 13-year-old son was injured in the jostling and shoving as people rushed forward to catch a glimpse of the actor. Arjun’s security personnel reportedly tried to push them back, further aggravating the situation.

Following his arrest, Arjun was taken to Hyderabad’s Chikkadpally police station for questioning.

A case was registered on 5 December against the actor, his security team and the theatre management for culpable homicide and intentionally causing hurt at Chikkadpally based on a complaint by the deceased Revathi’s family.

Police said theatre management made no security arrangements that evening as there was no prior information about the actor’s visit.

On 6 December, the actor announced he would give Rs 25 lakh to the 35-year-old’s family, saying in a video message on X that he was grieving along with them.

The 42-year-old further said: “Whatever we do, this loss can never be covered. From our side, we want to say that we are emotionally there for you. Whatever help you need, we are there for you, and on my behalf, I would like to donate an amount of Rs 25 lakhs as a goodwill gesture to secure their future and especially that of their children. I’ll be there for them if they need any kind of support, I will try to be there.”
