Bihar election 2025 Phase 2: Early exit polls predict NDA’s return to power

Polling has ended in 122 seats, with 1,302 candidates in the fray as high-stakes Bihar election enters final leg. First phase on 6 November saw record high voter turnout.

Will momentum from the first phase carry forward to the second in the form of record high voter turnout? Could the second phase mark the turning point of the high-stakes Bihar election 2025? Which side will exit polls favour? Answers to all these questions will be decided today as 3.7 crore voters head to polling booths in 122 seats across Bihar, including in districts bordering West Bengal, Jharkhand and Nepal.

In this phase, the electoral fate of 1,302 candidates hangs in the balance. Among key seats are Jamui, Katihar, Bhagalpur, Ghosi and Chanpatia. For Nitish Kumar, who has been administered the oath of office of chief minister nine times, this is a crucial election. Stakes are equally high for Tejashwi Yadav, the Mahagathbandhan’s chief ministerial prospect.

07.00 PM: Early exit polls predict NDA’s return to power

As voting for the Bihar assembly elections wraps up, a majority of exit polls have predicted a return for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with a clear majority by securing 130 to 160 seats. Several videos show electronic voting machines (EVMs) and Voter-verified paper audit trail (VVPAT) machines being sealed and put away across Bihar.

06.00 PM: CEO shares 5 pm voter turn, 67.14% across 20 districts of Bihar

In a post on X, the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar shared the 5 pm poll percentage. The districts of Supaul, Kishanganj, Purnia, and Katihar, saw more than 70 per cent voter turnout. Nawada, is the only district where turn out remained under the sixty mark, having recorded 57.11%.

05.30 PM: Scuffle between RJD and BJP supporters at poll booth in Purnia

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of sending goons to two wards of Purnia district, disturbing the voting process and misbehaving with Mahagathbandhan polling agents. In a video clip posted on X by RJD, supporters of the two parties can be seen arguing outside the polling station.

03.00 PM: 60.40% voter turnout till 3 pm in the final phase of the Bihar polls

The Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar shared the final poll percentage on X, with Kishanganj recording the highest percentage of voters with 66.10%. Purnia and Katihar logged 64.22 and 63.80 per cent of voters, respectively. Nawada at 53.17 per cent had the lowest voter turnout.

01.00 PM: Clash between Congress and BJP supporters in Araria

A clash broke out between Congress and BJP supporters at a polling booth in Araria during the final phase of the Bihar elections. Several Congress supporters alleged that they were being targeted by the rival party.

12.45 PM: Bihar’s international border sealed for 72 hours after Delhi car blast

Following Monday’s blast near Delhi’s Red Fort, the Bihar administration has decided to seal its 700-kilometre international border with Nepal in view of the ongoing assembly elections, said the state’s Director General of Police Vinay Kumar, adding that joint patrolling by state police forces is being done along the interstate borders. DGP Kumar said, “The police is alert following the incident that occurred in Delhi yesterday, to ensure no such incident happens in Bihar.”

12.00 PM: 31.38% voter turnout till 11 am

The Election Commission of India said Bihar is witnessing a robust voter participation in the second phase of the elections with 34.74 percent turnout in Kishanganj, whereas the Madhubani district saw the lowest percentage of voters, i.e., 28.66 percent.

Gaya recorded a brisk turnout of 34.07 per cent, followed by 33.69 per cent in Jamui, 32.88 per cent in Aurangabad, 32.91 per cent in Banka, 32.94 per cent in Purnia and 32.39 per cent in Paschim Champaran.

Kaimur (Bhabua) recorded a turnout of 31.98 per cent, Araria 31.88 per cent, Arwal 31.07 per cent, Supaul 31.69 per cent, Sheohar 31.58 per cent, Purvi Champaran 31.16 per cent, Jahanabad 30.36 per cent, Katihar 30.83 per cent, Sitamarhi 29.81 per cent, Rohtas 29.80 per cent and Bhagalpur 29.08 per cent, Nawada 29.02 per cent.

Among the key constituencies, Supaul recorded a turnout of 31.10 per cent, Sasaram 29.84 per cent, Mohania 32.91 per cent, Kutumba 33.40 per cent, Gaya Town 25.02 per cent, Chainpur 32.31 per cent, Dhamdaha 33.22 per cent, Harsiddhi 29.99 per cent and Jhanjharpur 26.76 per cent.

7 AM: Polls open across 122 seats

As polls open, 3.70 crore voters are set to decide the fate of 1,302 candidates in the second phase of the 2025 Bihar election. Polling day marks the culmination of a high-voltage campaign that saw PM Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar address a flurry of public meetings across the length and breadth of the state. This was matched on the other side by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, as well as Prashant Kishor whose Jan Suraaj party is making its political debut.
