New Delhi: The road ahead for India following the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic is more daunting than it was during the 1991 economic crisis, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said Friday.

In a statement released on the 30th anniversary of the economic liberalisation reforms, Singh looked back at his role in the reforms as then finance minister. “It gives us immense joy to look back with pride at the tremendous economic progress made by our nation in the last three decades,” he said.

The former PM also said he was saddened by the devastating impact of the pandemic on the country, the many lives lost and the current state of health and education system.

“The social sectors of health and education have lagged behind and not kept pace with our economic progress. Too many lives and livelihoods have been lost that should not have been,” he added.
