New Delhi: Pitching Chhattisgarh as a rising investment hub, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has said his government has attracted proposals worth ₹7.90 lakh crore so far, as he chaired an investors’ summit in Delhi seeking to boost the capital inflow in the state.

“Not just investment proposals, we have also started work on ground in the state. We keep travelling to various places. We have been able to attract a lot of investors, and Chattisgarh will soon become an investment hub,” Sai told reporters at the Investor Connect programme at New Delhi’s Lalit Hotel.

Entrepreneurs from all over the country attended the summit Tuesday, where investments worth Rs 6,321 crore, including Rs 500 crore in the tourism sector, were pledged.

“These projects will create more than 3,000 employment opportunities in the state in the coming years. With this investment proposal, Chhattisgarh has so far received a total of Rs 7.90 lakh-crore worth investment proposals,” the chief minister’s office said in a post on X.

This was the second Investor Connect organised by Chhattisgarh in New Delhi, and the focus of this summit was the steel sector.

The chief minister emphasised that the presence of key minerals—coal, iron ore, bauxite, tin, and lithium—in the state provides a significant foundation for large-scale industrial and manufacturing growth.

He also told the entrepreneurs that the biggest challenge to business in the state, Naxalism, is nearing its end.

‘Specialty steel’

The event was also attended by senior officials from the Centre and the state who informed the prospective investors about various business-friendly policy measures taken by the Sai government.

They said the state was working towards becoming a ‘specialty steel’ hub. Specialty steel, also known as alloy steel, is engineered—by adding other elements like chromium, nickel, or molybdenum—to have superior performance characteristics beyond those of standard steel.

“India is currently dependent on imports for specialty steel. But we can make Chattisgarh the hub for the production of specialty steel,” said Ritu Sain, Officer on Special Duty-cum-special commissioner for investment in Chattisgarh.

Other senior officials said the alloy steel production market will shift to Asian markets, and India must lead the race, and within the country, Chattisgarh could be the hub for manufacturing specialty steel.

“A major chunk of the market of medical devices is associated with steel. Like dental implants, hip implants, knee implants… all have steel. This industry is growing. This is an export-led sector. We need non-corrosive, high tensile strength steel for it which doesn’t have a lot of weight. This industry has a lot of supply chain viability in the future,” Department of Telecommunications secretary Amit Agarwal said.

Pitching steel as a growing, India-centric sector which presents opportunities of growth for all entrepreneurs, the officials urged them to invest in Chhattisgarh.

“The only economy in the world where steel growth is taking place is India. There is no other country where consumption is growing at the scale it is growing in India. Steel consumption in the last three years has grown 12.5 per cent, in other countries it is declining. India is the market for steel. With development, this will increase for at least 30-35 years,” said Union Steel Secretary Sandeep Poundrik.

“The steel sector is booming, in consumption as well as production.”
