New Delhi, Apr 21 (PTI) Food safety regulator FSSAI on Tuesday sought a detailed report from Gujarat authorities on a suspected mass food poisoning incident affecting over 200 people at a wedding feast in the state and said the guilty will be punished.
After consuming food at a feast in Gujarat’s Dahod district on Monday night, more than 200 villagers fell ill, and nearly 60 of them had to be hospitalised, due to suspected food poisoning.
According to officials, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has sought a detailed report from the state food commissioner on the incident.
The central regulator is also helping the Gujarat authorities in the collection of samples for carrying out examination.
Officials said that strict action will be taken against those found guilty after gathering all the evidence.
On Tuesday, Dahod collector Yogesh Nirgude told PTI, “As many as 230 people complained of vomiting, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain shortly after having dinner at a wedding in Abhlod village in Dahod district”.
The condition of those admitted to hospitals is stable.
Around 400 wedding guests had consumed a meal that included mango juice at around 8 pm, and some of them took ill around 11 pm, he said.
According to Nirgude, the affected people were rushed to primary and community health centres and private hospitals. PTI MJH RAM DRR
