New Delhi: German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz will launch 10 new vehicles in India this year as it eyes a double digit growth in 2023 again, the company’s newly-appointed managing director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, Santosh Iyer said at a press conference in Delhi.
The announcement comes on the back of the car maker delivering a record number of 15,822 cars in India in 2022, a growth of about 41 per cent from sales of 11,242 units in 2021.
“The year 2022 has been our ‘best year ever’ on the back of new products and best ever production year despite continuous supply constraints…. The key models that drove growth in 2022 included the C-Class, E-Class, S-Class limousines and the GLA, GLC, GLE and GLS SUVs,” said Iyer, the first Indian to take on this role with the German luxury carmaker.
He pointed out that the top end vehicles segment in Mercedes Benz saw the highest growth of 69 per cent in 2022 in India. The company sold over 3,500 cars that are priced above Rs 1 crore last year.
Mercedes Benz India Friday also launched its ‘AMG E53 4MATIC+ Cabriolet’ model priced at Rs 1.3 crore onwards.
Iyer added that the share of company’s top-end vehicles (TEV) to sales has increased to 22 per cent, up from 12 per cent in 2018. He added that expanding the TEV base is a key part of the strategy this year.
Further, he added that Mercedes-Benz India aims to become a paperless organisation in 2023 and is focusing on reducing its water consumption and waste generation by 19 per cent compared to 2021.
“Mercedes-Benz India plant continues its green accomplishment and since 2022 runs on 100 per cent green energy. As a part of the sustainable mission, over 1/3rd of Mercedes-Benz Franchise Partners will operate on green energy by the end of 2023,” he added.
