New Delhi: With US President Donald Trump set to visit India this month, the Ministry of External Affairs has devised an offbeat, multilingual welcome for him and First Lady Melania Trump.
‘Indian Diplomacy’, the official public diplomacy Twitter account of the MEA, has asked people to tweet a video of themselves saying ‘Welcome to India President Trump’ in their mother tongues. The respondents have also been asked to mention the language in which they would be sending their wishes.
This innovative call to welcome President Trump, who will be on his maiden visit to India on 24 and 25 February, received many responses with people sending personalised videos in Kashmiri, Garhwali and Kannada, while others sent written messages in Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil, Odia and Telugu.

Trump visit to India
On his two-day visit, Trump along with wife Melania will travel to New Delhi and Ahmedabad in Gujarat. He is also expected to sign a trade deal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In an interaction with reporters at the White House Tuesday, Trump said, “They (Indians) want to do something and we’ll see… if we can make the right deal, (we) will do it.”
The US President is also expected to address a public rally at the newly constructed Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad and he joked about the size of the crowd that will welcome him there.
“He (Modi) said that we will have millions and millions of people. My only problem is that last night we probably had 40 or 50,000 people… I am not going to feel so good… There will be five to seven million people just from the airport to the new stadium,” he told the reporters.
