New Delhi: Less than four hours after the ceasefire between India and Pakistan came into effect Saturday, drones were sighted and explosions heard in parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Gujarat. The situation, however, is now said to be calm and blackouts have been relaxed in parts of these border states along the northern and western sectors.
The ceasefire, announced by US President Donald Trump and confirmed by Pakistan Deputy Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, and Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, was agreed upon during an exchange between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) of both countries earlier in the day. Misri in a brief statement to the press shortly after said the ceasefire which came into effect at 5 pm Saturday marked a stop to all firing and military action on land, air and sea effective immediately.
However, there were drone sightings and explosions along the International Border (IB) and the Line of Control (LoC) later in the evening, before the situation reverted to calm.
Misri in another press briefing a little before 11 pm said for the last few hours, Islamabad had been violating the understanding reached between DGMOs of both countries. “Indian Army is retaliating and dealing with this border intrusion. This intrusion is extremely condemnable and Pakistan is responsible for it. We believe Pakistan should understand this situation properly and take appropriate action immediately to stop this intrusion,” he said.
Jammu & Kashmir
A little past 8 PM Saturday, what appeared to be anti-drone flares were sighted over Udhampur, Nagarota, and Sidhra in Jammu division.
Power supply was still intact in these settlements at the time of filing this report, possibly due to relaxation of restrictions in light of the ceasefire.
Around 9 PM, the aerial activity intensified with multiple flares and explosions seen at a distance from Jammu. For three days now, a similar pattern of drone swarms and aerial interceptions was witnessed in these parts of the Jammu division.
Lights along the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, which were switched on after three days Saturday, were switched off again shortly after aerial engagement was seen in the skies over these parts. Additionally, residents from Ranbir Singh Pura in Jammu said anti-drone systems were activated around the same time, with varying frequencies.
Incidents of shelling also came to light from Rajouri and Nowshera, in addition to loud explosions in Samba.
Srinagar too witnessed disturbances, with J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah writing in a post on X at 8.53 pm, “What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!” Minutes later, he shared a video showing a flash of light, adding, “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up.”

Rajasthan
Border districts in Rajasthan witnessed a complete blackout hours after the ceasefire between India and Pakistan came into effect at 5 pm Saturday. Similar blackouts, accompanied by closure of markets and schools, were witnessed in Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar between Wednesday and Friday.
On Saturday, the Barmer District Magistrate in a post on X at 8:40 PM announced an urgent districtwide blackout. In another post, the DM urged residents to remain in their homes and avoid travel unless necessary.
In Jaisalmer, widespread celebrations over the ceasefire soon turned into a blackout with the administration anticipating aerial assaults.
For the last three days, the four districts in Rajasthan that share a border with Pakistan were targeted by Pakistani drones and projectiles thwarted by Indian air defences.

Gujarat
In Gujarat, a drone was sighted in the Sir Creek area of Kutch. The district collector of Kutch had earlier in the day rescinded the order for a blackout in light of the ceasefire coming into effect. While there was no blackout in the area at the time of filing this report, streetlights were switched off as a precautionary measure in Bhuj and Jamnagar.
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi in a post on X at 9.32 pm said “several drones have been spotted in the Kutch district” and that a “complete blackout will be implemented now”.
