India defence exhibition DefExpo postponed due to ‘logistics problems’ amid Russia-Ukraine war

Russia and the US have been prominent players at previous defence exhibitions held in India. During the Aero India show last year, the biggest exhibitor was Ukraine.

New Delhi: The outbreak of the war in Ukraine has led to an unexpected consequence in India. The international defence exhibition — that was to be held this month in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar — has been postponed as participants were encountering “logistics problems”, the Ministry of Defence said in a tweet.

“Due to logistics problems being experienced by participants, the #DefExpo2022 proposed to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat from March 10th till March 14th is postponed. The new dates will be communicated in due course,” it added.

Sources told ThePrint that several participants, including companies, top executives and foreign government representatives, had expressed their inability to attend the defence exhibition.

Russia and the US have been prominent players at previous editions of defence exhibitions held in India, where they have showcased their latest technology and systems.

During the Aero India show last year, the biggest exhibitor was Ukraine, which had big plans to increase defence cooperation with India.

It was only last month that India decided to extend the duration of DefExpo — which is the land, naval and homeland security systems exhibition — by a day.

The exhibition was meant to be a hybrid business event with the participation of nearly 1,000 companies.
