In charts: Chhattisgarh is the most dangerous state for security forces fighting Naxalism

Almost four times as many security personnel die fighting Naxals in Chhattisgarh than the rest of India.

Almost four times as many security personnel die fighting Naxals in Chhattisgarh than the rest of India. 

Nine Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed Tuesday in an attack by Naxals in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district. And data reveals fighting Naxalism in the state has claimed almost four times as many security persons’ lives as the rest of India.

In 2018 (till 4 March) 14 security personnel were killed combating Left wing extremism in India, data from South Asian Terrorism Portal reveals. Of these, 12 personnel were killed in Chhattisgarh.

In 2017, the number of security personnel killed in the line of duty in Chhattisgarh was 59, while the all-India figure was 74.


The percentage of security personnel killed in Chhattisgarh has also risen from 34.62 per cent in 2012 to 79.73 per cent in 2017.
