One nation, one election is a bad idea born out of flawed reasoning. Benefits are overstated and based on convenient projections and presumptions. Five year tenure security is no insurance against policy paralysis. It’s anti-people as they’ll lose their right to reward or punish the ruling class at regular intervals.

  1. Unipolar moments are not permanent in Indian politics. Recall L K Advani’s hubris in saying that there are two poles in Indian politics, Congress the minor one, and that the BJP is the natural party of governance. One the eve of the party spending a decade on the opposition benches. Which was of course a dramatic improvement over 2 seats in 1984.
