In permitting Harish Rana’s caregivers to withdraw life support, the Supreme Court of India has operationalised its passive euthanasia jurisprudence for the first time. It has struck a fine balance between constitutional principles, medical realities, and individual dignity. It also brings some national closure on Aruna Shanbaug’s long legal struggle.
