Maharashtra government’s U-turn on three-language policy shows limitations of Hindi-isation. Pushback from RSS’ birthplace is a lesson for BJP. It should show equal sensitivity to public opinion in non-NDA-ruled states. The 2011 Census showed significant increase in Hindi speakers in southern and western states. Imposition attempts do disservice to Hindi.
