The Galgotias University row at the AI Impact Summit 2026 is not just an embarrassment. It’s a colossal brand destruction vis-à-vis China, and that too at the government flagship event. This was plagiarism sold as innovation, a true facepalm moment for Indians. What’s worse, it tarnishes India’s robust robotics industry.

India does not have a robust robotics industry. Editors must perform due diligence. With regard to robotics, India is at best a middle power with the best ones far ahead. One needs to be truthful to oneself before improving. Secondly, the Galgotias episode is not a brand destruction of India at all because it is not even a name heard by even Indians themselves. If it was an IIT or even an NIT caught up in this, then it would truly have been a face palm for Indians. Thirdly, China is not on a pedestal regarding these innovations especially since its name keeps coming up in IP theft. We must stop being carried away by headlines.
