Indian universities’ rankings for research productivity should be viewed with scepticism

Five Indian universities are among Asia’s top 10 for research productivity in the QS World University Rankings. It’s good news, but should be taken with a pinch of scepticism. The rankings don’t factor in PhD thesis retractions. Global watchdog Retraction Watch found that Indian researchers faced 2,737 retractions in 2023.
