Rahul Gandhi’s ‘jitni abadi, utna haq’ slogan is self-destructive. Caste census may be a necessary evil for policy imperatives but linking rights with population is a dangerous majoritarian idea. Kanshi Ram’s slogan of population-based participation was in a different socio-political milieu. Congress rehashing it today exposes bankruptcy of political imagination.

Canada should’ve talked privately with India before going public on Nijjar allegations

Canada should have first pursued private diplomatic talks with New Delhi before it decided to go to parliament with Nijjar killing allegations and collect a mohalla-style panchayat of its global allies. The onus of privileging its domestic politics over diplomacy is on Ottawa. Justin Trudeau can’t have it both ways.
