This is not a movie review nor I am Taran Adarsh to discuss the aspects of recently released movie Baby, but I am here to talk about how digital inclusivity is transforming the Telugu film industry and what other industries and societies as a whole can learn from this transformation.

People are busy criticizing the Bollywood film industry for nepotism , close knitted circles and gangs , but people are wilfully looking away from the fact that the Telugu film industry is also facing the same issues. Even though the Telugu film industry had hits like Bahubali, Pushpa and RRR but it is also facing the same issues of Hindi film industry , much of the films are hero-centric and revolve around four families. Quality of films has drastically fallen and it is appealing to only their loyal fan base and ignoring the general audience, but I begin to see a ray of hope and things start to change for good.

Reason for this optimism is the recently released telugu movie ‘baby’ , which many people in hindi circles have not even noticed. This film made on a budget of 10 crore minted around 80 crore which many big budget films failed to garner with the likes of prabhas or Pawan kalyan. Most interesting aspect of this movie is that the actors in this movie are from a very humble background. The debutant lead actress Vaishnavi Chaitanya stole the limelight, it’s very rare to see a debutant actress getting a role in a heroine-oriented film. It was all possible because of the digital inclusion that we are seeing in the Telugu film industry.

The lead actress Vaishnavi Chaitanya has done many roles in short films that have garnered millions of views on youtube , it is because of which she got a role in the movie. Very few people are understanding the power of digital inclusion. Before the onset of digital inclusion , to get a chance be it directors , actors or technicians you would be at the mercy of influential people in industry. But this has started to change , people who have talent can start making their talent known to the world via youtube without the help of influential people. What this has done is it is trying to bring in inclusiveness which would attract more talent to the industry. The new talent would try to challenge the incumbents and make them change their way or they would be thrown out of the industry. This new talent is trying to make movies which are very well connected to the audience because they have come out of the audience which would not be possible for the nepo kids because they have been parachuted in by their parents who don’t understand how to connect with the audience.

So finally I would say that other industries not only film industries but other industries like education , science need to be open to outsiders otherwise you cannot expect growth in the society because there so many out their who have talent but are not able to break the barrier set by insiders in the industry because of which we as society as a whole will fail. Industries need to set up mechanisms through which outsiders can easily access the resources and use the growth which inturn would help in growth of industry as well as the society.
