An apolitically political comment as all political parties resort to some falsification in the course of campaigning… and it is equally deplorable all around. This particular point concerns Military and as an extension security.
Voting age in India was reduced from 21 Years to 18 years in 1988. Those born in 1962 would have been eligible to vote only in 1983. The narrative during elections in the decades till 2019 was Pakistan and terrorism. China seldom appeared in the public space. After the 2020 Galwan action the patrolling agreements on the LAC was repeatedly violated by China and remains disrupted and it is true that India has been denied patrolling rights in places where it used to venture earlier. For politicos Pakistan theme became less appealing, the dragon was dragged into the narratives with distorted stories. There is a problem in the narratives with China given the condescending and bloody history with China since Indian independence. Majority of the present-day voters (18-60) would not know and may not care to know the Indo-China history of the 3 decades following Independence. Such opportunistic, raucous, false narratives by some parties about Chinese activities on our border is done duplicitously by ALL and have been accepted by sections of the society. (The Q. What should beb taught as part of Indian history in schools?) Taking falsehood to our borders willfully hiding facts is dangerously insidious.
What this does is to paint a fearsome picture to the world about India, when substantial reforms in Land, Farm, labor and economic sectors are essential for the nation to continue its journey towards prosperity. Instead of public discussions on these issues the nation continues to dwell od trivial issues like how we pray and dress. Investments are fleeing from the Indian economy.
It is high time for the civil society to stand up against false foulmouthed agenda-based narratives voiced by ALL political parties. It will be waiting for Godot if we expect the politicians to correct themselves.
