Macauley’s children:
I did my schooling in Marathi; later it took a lot of effort to learn English.
I do not understand western music; I love old Bollywood melodies.
I do not like western food, I enjoy my Dal-Roti-Bhaat. Though I have learnt to use a spoon, I am equally comfortable using my fingers.
However,
I have faith in modern medicine over what goes in the name of Aayush
I prefer our messy democracy over a Ram-Rajya monarchy.
I hate Manu-smriti just like Babasaheb.
I never saw any need of renaming Victoria Terminus to Shivaji Terminus but do not care.
Does that make me a Macauley’s child?
Recently, one Dalit writer made an interesting point:
Robert Clive defeated India and didn’t question caste. Macaulay envisioned India as a free nation and critiqued caste. That explains why Indians hate one more than the other.
A Dalit must bow to an upper caste during Pranam but not when saying Good Morning. His dhoti must stay above his knees but no such possibility if wearing (full) pants.
Exact words of Macauley to support this point are given in the article.
There is also a fake speech of Macauley, viral on social media in which he tells the British Parliament of the greatness of Indian Culture and his strategy to decimate it! It has been read & believed by millions.
If Macauley replaced Persian with English in the East India rule, I have no problem with that.
Maybe he never understood India; he just did his job for the British!
