Request readers to repose faith in my opinions in view of my decades of experience both as a student interacting with fellow students and our teachers and as a faculty member interacting with students and fellow faculty members –both during active service and after retirement.
1. Revert back to a six day week system-both in letter and spirit. Not just the days but the number of working hours per week is also an important aspect. Minimum 40-44 hrs. This does not mean students or faculty are overloaded. Of these 40 plus hours, how many hours should students be occupied in the classroom and laboratories ? It is internationally felt that students require about three hours to understand and memorise one hour of lecture delivered by the teacher. Therefore not more than 12-14 hours of teaching/training per week. Remaining time –40 plus hours minus 12-14—is to be left free for students learning the teaching/training imparted. /
2. Number of working days per semester should be a minimum of 90 days both in letter and spirit. That is to say, that study holidays, days on which model exams and final exams are conducted should not be included in the 90 days period. /
3. Project work/Research work/ Dissertation/Thesis –SHOULD BE ABOLISHED both at Bachelors level and Masters level. This semester/trimester will be used for imparting additional courses.
