I would like to suggest a no cost solution to inner city traffic jams and congestion.
This congestion is an endemic issue today and will get worse over the years.
A possible solution is as follows:
- Have one way three lane 12 meter elevated carriage ways which are supported by short span piers (to reduce costs), on a central median (as is commonly done today). The flow needs to be one way to solve land acquisition issues.
- Today all bridges are built to class AA bridge specifications, This is to support a 70 tonne central load. This 70 tonne central load basically denotes a battle tank. These new elevated roads should be designed for only vehicles which weigh below 3 tonnes.
This will reduce the cost of the elevated roadways by 80%, The cost of land acquisition would be an additional saving.
- State of art equipment in multiple levels should be installed for allowing only vehicles of less than 3 tonnes.
- These elevated roads should be tolled and self paying.
5. There should be called for comprehensive design, alignment and priorty build concept. Google could be good bet for this designing as it it knows the roads and traffic patterns of all cities intimately.
- Tenders should on build own transfer basis, where the toll pays for the elevated road.
- Solid Bonus should for early completion by the agency.
