Washington, Mar 14 (PTI) Virginia State Senate passed a resolution lauding the contribution of Indian American journalist T Vishnudatta Jayaraman for amplifying diverse voices and bringing greater attention to the South Asian community in the region.
A resolution commending Jayaraman, the founder and editor-in-chief of South Asian Herald, was passed by the Virginia State Senate on Friday.
“…through both the South Asian Herald and his other journalistic endeavors, Vishnudatta Jayaraman has amplified diverse voices, fostered informed dialogue, and brought greater attention to the South Asian community in the Commonwealth,” read the resolution introduced by Virginia State Senator Kannan Srinivasan.
The resolution highlighted that Jayaraman founded South Asian Herald in October 2024 with the mission of establishing a news outlet that would serve as an “authentic voice” of the Indian American and broader South Asian community in the United States.
Jayaraman was present in the Senate Gallery when Srinivasan read out a summary of the resolution on March 9.
President of the Virginia State Senate Ghazala Hashmi lauded Jayaraman and underlined the importance of independent media.
