New Delhi: The US Vice President, Kamala Harris spoke with President Bernardo Arévalo of Guatemala by phone Wednesday to discuss progress made in addressing irregular migration through the Biden-Harris Administration’s Root Causes Strategy and through Central America Forward.

The Vice President thanked President Arévalo for his partnership and highlighted the progress made in addressing irregular migration through the Biden-Harris Administration’s Root Causes Strategy and Central America Forward, a White House release stated. The latter initiative, a public-private partnership led by Harris, has secured more than $5.2 billion in private sector investments and generated economic opportunities in northern Central America, contributing to the reduction in irregular migration to the United States.

Harris reaffirmed her commitment to good governance, countering corruption, promoting labor and human rights, and reducing gender-based violence, emphasizing that these are crucial elements in reducing irregular migration, expressing support for President Arévalo and his administration’s efforts to uphold democratic institutions and the rule of law in Guatemala.
