UK, Ukraine seal historic 100-Year partnership

New Delhi: The UK and Ukraine signed a historic 100-Year Partnership on Wednesday, solidifying their commitment to mutual support and cooperation across various sectors. Prime Minister Starmer traveled to the country to meet President Zelenskyy, a government press release stated.
 
The treaty aims to bolster military collaboration, particularly in maritime security, with a focus on strengthening the Baltic, Black, and Azov seas. The partnership also emphasizes scientific and technological collaboration, spanning areas like healthcare, agriculture, space, and drone technology. Additionally, it seeks to foster cultural ties through educational exchanges and other initiatives, the release added.

The partnership represents a long-term commitment to Ukraine’s security and prosperity, aiming to prevent future aggression from Russia. He emphasized the importance of the partnership in nurturing a strong economy, a safe country, and a prosperous society for both nations.

The agreement outlines nine key pillars of cooperation, leveraging the strengths and resilience showcased by Ukraine during its defense against the Russian invasion. The specific details of the treaty and its accompanying political declaration will be presented to Parliament in the coming weeks.

During his visit, Prime Minister Starmer announced new UK support measures for Ukraine, including lethal aid and economic resilience initiatives. He also witnessed firsthand the impact of UK aid at a Ukrainian hospital, where he met with patients and doctors who are receiving support from the UK’s £100 million humanitarian funding.
