New Delhi: The British High Commissioner for Kenya, Neil Wigan, has visited Wajir County as part of a tour of the country to discuss the UK-Wajir partnership and the impact of UK programming in the county, a press release stated.

During the visit, the High Commissioner met with Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi and County Commissioner Karuku Ngumo to discuss the partnership between the UK and Kenya and how it is improving the lives of people in the county, particularly women and girls.

The opportunity was also seized to review the progress of key UK programs supporting Wajir County, including the development of the local Women’s Council, the implementation of gender desks at Wajir police stations, and the provision of cash assistance to vulnerable communities. The High Commissioner also visited Wajir County Central Police Station to learn more about the work of the gender desks and how they are supporting the victims of violence against women and girls in the county.

During the visit, the High Commissioner met with beneficiaries of the UK-Government of Kenya cash transfer program, which has provided cash grants to thousands of people in Wajir County, helping them to set up businesses and invest in their families. The visit to Wajir County is the first by the High Commissioner since he took up his post in September 2023.
