New Delhi: The United Kingdom strongly condemned North Korea’s latest intermediate-range ballistic missile launch, calling it a defiance of “multiple UN Security Council resolutions.
In a statement delivered at the UN Security Council meeting on North Korea on Wednesday, UK Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Barbara Woodward said: “This latest launch follows a year of provocative and brazen violations by the DPRK, which saw the testing and firing of fifty missiles, including an intercontinental ballistic missile as well as their craven support to Russia, supplying weapons and troops, for Russia’s illegal war against Ukraine.”
Woodward emphasized that the DPRK’s actions should be a concern for all, and stressed the importance of a collective response from the Council to uphold its authority and defend its resolutions. She also stated that the DPRK continues to develop its nuclear and ballistic capabilities, posing a direct threat to peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and the wider Indo-Pacific.
Woodward urged the DPRK to abandon its missile programs and its partnership with Russia, which she said has already cost North Korean lives. She called on the DPRK to prioritize the well-being of its people, allow access to the international community, and engage in meaningful dialogue to achieve a peaceful, stable, and prosperous future.
