New Delhi: The UK Prime Minister hosted His Highness The Amir of Qatar at 10 Downing Street on Wednesday and they agreed to an ambitious Future Framework to further strengthen cooperation, a UK government release revealed. The agreement aims to raise the ambition and set a strategic direction for the relationship, building on the priorities set out in the 2010 UK-Qatar Dynamic Partnership and subsequent agreements.
he two leaders agreed to focus bilateral efforts across four priority areas: a generational security partnership; an expanded economic partnership centred on mutual growth and diverse, modern economies; joint action and leadership on global issues; and connecting our people, the release said. The Future Framework will be overseen and developed through the annual UK-Qatar Strategic Dialogue, co-chaired by the UK Foreign Secretary and Qatari Prime Minister.
Under the ‘generational security partnership’ the two countries vowed to strengthen their respective defence capabilities through broadening cooperation on the Typhoon and Hawk partnerships.
In addition, a capacity-building agreement was signed to strengthen cooperation between the UK’s Royal Military Police and Qatar’s Military Police. The two nations also agreed to team up with partners to boost their defense industries’ supply chains, support exports, and boost manufacturing in Qatar.
