New Delhi: America and the world lost an extraordinary leader, statesman, and humanitarian, US President Joe Biden said in a statement mourning the loss of former president Jimmy Carter.
They emphasised Carter’s enduring impact on both the nation and the world and highlighted his unwavering commitment to eradicating disease, fostering peace, advancing civil and human rights, ensuring fair elections, providing housing for the homeless, and advocating for the marginalised.
They noted that Carter’s impact extended far beyond those who knew him personally, with “millions of people throughout America and the world who never met him thought of him as a dear friend as well”.
The Bidens praised Carter’s character, courage, hope, and optimism, reflecting on his enduring legacy.
President Biden announced an official state funeral will be held in Washington D.C. to honour Carter’s service as the 39th President of the United States, 76th Governor of Georgia, Lieutenant of the United States Navy, graduate of the United States Naval Academy, and “favourite son of Plains, Georgia”.
