New Delhi: 761 students received diplomas in thirteen different subjects at a ceremony held at Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike memorial International Conference Hall Friday. The event marked the completion of their vocational training programs under the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority, a government press release stated.

Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, speaking at the ceremony, highlighted the government’s commitment to building a skilled workforce prepared for both local and global labor markets. She stressed the importance of diverse skills for national development and emphasized the government’s dedication to inclusive education.

“Our government is committed to ensuring that no one is left behind in the education system,” said Prime Minister Amarasuriya.  She urged youth to acquire skills relevant to achieving full employment and highlighted the importance of fostering entrepreneurship to bridge the skills gap. This approach aims to bridge the skills gap between the labor market and youth.

She also emphasised her government’s policy focus on providing technical and vocational education from school to tertiary levels. This focus aims to broaden access to education and training opportunities aligned with labor market needs.  She underscored the value of all professions and the importance of recognizing individuals entering any field as valuable members of society. Instilling confidence to thrive in their chosen careers is essential.
