New Delhi: One person was killed and at least four others have been seriously injured after two passenger trains collided in Wales Monday night.
At around 19:26 on 21 October 2024, the collision occurred on Network Rail’s Cambrian line, approximately 800 meters west of the passing loop located at Talerddig, Powys. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) said the 18:31 Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth service collided with the 19:09 Machynlleth to Shrewsbury service. Both trains were operated by Transport for Wales.
“RAIB was notified of the accident at 19:45 on the night of the accident and immediately dispatched a team of inspectors to examine the site and collect evidence,” the agency revealed Tuesday.
Early investigation suggest a collision speed of approximately 24 km/h (15 mph). Eleven more people were injured and required hospital treatment.
