New Delhi: The Biden-Harris Administration announced new measures to support the long-term rebuilding process as North Carolina communities continue recovery from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will establish a new program deploying Community Liaisons across the state to work directly with impacted residents and businesses, ensuring their needs are met and assisting with recovery efforts, a White House release announced.
This announcement comes as the Administration has already approved over $300 million in aid for North Carolina, including $118 million in individual assistance to more than 87,600 households and over $189 million for debris removal and emergency efforts.
The newly appointed Community Liaisons will serve as crucial intermediaries between North Carolinians and FEMA, ensuring a smooth and efficient recovery process. They will be actively engaged in communities, assisting with damage assessments, connecting residents with available resources, and providing trusted information throughout the rebuilding process. In addition to the new liaison program, the Administration is maintaining a robust presence in North Carolina with over 1,500 federal personnel actively supporting recovery operations.
Fourteen Disaster Recovery Centers are operating in impacted areas and have served more than 5,700 visitors. More centers will be opening in the coming days, the release added.
