New Delhi: The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, hosted President Peter Pellegrini of Slovakia at NATO Headquarters Friday to discuss preparations for the Washington Summit.
In a press release on 28 June, the Secretary General expressed appreciation for Slovakia’s investment in NATO’s collective defence, strengthening its capabilities and readiness to deter and defend against any aggression.
Noting that the purpose of NATO is not to fight but to prevent war and preserve peace, Secretary General Stoltenberg said the summit in Washington will focus on decisions for the future, including deterrence and defence, Ukraine and partnerships.
According to the Secretary General, the support for Ukraine will also be of high importance on the agenda of the summit, with the expectation that Allies will agree a lead role in providing security assistance and training to Ukraine, with a long-term commitment as well.
