New Delhi: Several people were shot in a Brooklyn subway station and multiple “undetonated devices” found, the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) said.

FDNY officials told CNN that they were called to the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn’s Sunset Park for a “smoke condition” around 8.30 in the morning.

Multiple people were found shot, they said. It was later revealed that 13 people had gunshot injuries.

Photos on social media showed bloodied commuters being helped by others.

The New York Police Department told commuters to stay away from 36th Street and 4th Avenue in Brooklyn.

The department tweeted: “In regard to the multiple people shot at the 36th Street subway station in Brooklyn, there are NO active explosive devices at this time. Any witnesses are asked to call @NYPDTips at #800577TIPS. Please stay clear of the area. More provided information when available.”

Local media reports said the attacker wore a construction worker’s orange vest and a gas mask. He threw a gas canister on the platform, bang in the middle of the rush-hour crowd.

US President Joe Biden had just announced Monday that he would clamp down on “ghost guns” — or firearms that are difficult to trace — in order to staunch violence committed by them.
