QUITO (Reuters) – The office of Ecuador’s President Daniel Noboa said in a statement on Wednesday it has replaced Energy Minister Antonio Goncalves, as the Andean country grapples with planned power cuts.

The statement, posted on X, said current Environment Minister Ines Manzano would serve as interim minister. Goncalves was only named to his post in July.

Power cuts of some 10 hours at a time are taking place across the country because of drought conditions that have hit the hydroelectric dams that provide most of Ecuador’s power.
