New Delhi: President Joe Biden and other Group of Seven leaders wrapped up their summit Sunday in Cornwall, England, adopting a shared agenda to “build back better” and promising to end the coronavirus pandemic and combat climate change.
In a joint communique, the leaders committed to an end-to-end approach to boost supply of Covid tools, including vaccines, raw materials, tests, therapeutics, and personal protective equipment (PPE), through more production in more places to sustain a global supply network for this pandemic and the next.
They also said this cooperation will be based on the principles of open trade and transparency, including through terminating unnecessary trade restrictive measures and supporting open, diversified, secure and resilient supply chains.
On climate change, the Build Back Better for the World plan promises to offer financing for infrastructure from railways in Africa to wind farms in Asia to help speed up the global shift to renewable energy. The plan is a response to China’s belt and road initiative, which has increased Beijing’s worldwide influence.
All G-7 countries have pledged to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
