BRASILIA, March 12 (Reuters) – Brazil’s Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes denied a request from imprisoned former President Jair Bolsonaro for a visit from a Trump administration official, a court document showed on Thursday.

Lawyers for Bolsonaro asked the Brazilian Supreme Court earlier this week to allow Darren Beattie, who was recently tapped by U.S. President Donald Trump for a senior advisory role overseeing Brazil, to visit him in prison next week.

Bolsonaro is serving a 27-year prison sentence for plotting a coup against his successor, President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Earlier on Thursday, Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira told Moraes in a document that the visit from Beattie could be an “interference” in the country’s internal affairs.
