New Delhi: After Hurricane Helene approved emergency assistance for Alabama, President Biden has now approved the Alabama Emergency Declaration. This will allow federal aid to help the state recover from the storm, a White House announcement read.
The President’s action allows the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to coordinate all disaster relief efforts. This means that all federal aid for emergency measures will be distributed at 75% federal funding.
The counties that are eligible for federal assistance include those that were directly impacted by the storm. This includes Houston, Barbour, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Coffee, Covington, Crenshaw, Dale, DeKalb, Etowah, Geneva, Henry, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lee, Limestone, Macon, Madison, Marshall, Morgan, Randolph, Russell, and Tallapoosa.
Federal funding will be available for state and local government officials who are seeking to help with recovery efforts. According to the White House, Additional funding will be available for those impacted by severe storms. The Alabama Emergency Declaration will help to alleviate suffering and hardship caused by Hurricane Helene. Federal aid will help to restore critical infrastructure, services, and homes and also help to recover the workforce and restore economic vitality.
