The Biden administration has announced plans to resettle more than 100,000 refugees in the United States, the most in three decades, on World Refugee Day. The announcement, made on Thursday, is part of efforts to rebuild the country’s refugee resettlement program, which was severely dismantled during the previous administration. The program was designed to help refugees fleeing violence, persecution, or other forms of harm find safety in the United States.

The Biden administration has taken a number of steps to revitalize the resettlement program, including investing in domestic resettlement infrastructure, hiring more refugee officers, and modernizing overseas processing steps. It has also launched a new private sponsorship program, the Welcome Corps, which allows ordinary Americans to welcome refugees into their communities. The Welcome Corps program provides funding and support services to Welcome Corps volunteers and sponsors, helping them to successfully resettle refugees into their communities. The program is also open to colleges and universities, which are also being considered to participate in the Welcome Corps. The Biden administration has also committed to providing enhanced security and vetting procedures for refugees, including biometric and biographic security checks.
The administration believes that these measures will help to keep the American people safe from terrorism and other threats posed by refugees. The resettlement of refugees in the United States is a complex process, but the Biden administration has demonstrated its commitment to supporting refugees and ensuring that they have access to safety and opportunity. The efforts made to rebuild the U.S. refugee resettlement program are a step in the right direction, and more needs to be done to help refugees around the world.
