New Delhi: Palestinian journalist Duas Sharaf was killed in the early hours of Thursday taking the death toll of scribes to at least 22 in the relentless Israeli bombing since 7 October.

Sharaf was killed along with her child after Israeli jets bombed her house in central Gaza.

Palestinian WAFA news agency reported that multiple missiles were fired at a residence in the Al-Zawaida area which resulted in their deaths.

In a Telegram post, Voice of Al-Aqsa Radio – where Sharaf worked as a presenter – confirmed her demise from the aerial strikes that reportedly targetted her family home.

At least 22 Palestinian journalists have been killed by Israeli attacks in Gaza since October 7, Al Jazeera reported.

On Wednesday, the wife, son, daughter and grandson of Wael Dahdouh, Al Jazeera Arabic’s bureau chief in Gaza, were killed in an Israeli air raid.

Dahdouh later told the publication: “What happened is clear. This is a series of targeted attacks on children, women and civilians. I was just reporting from Yarmouk about such an attack, and the Israeli raids have targeted many areas, including Nuseirat.

“We had our doubts that the Israeli occupation would not let these people go without punishing them. And sadly, that is what happened. This is the ‘safe’ area that the occupation army spoke of.”

The Doha-based network strongly condemned “the indiscriminate targeting and killing of innocent civilians in Gaza, which has led to the loss of Wael Al-Dahdouh’s family and countless others”.

“The indiscriminate assault by the Israeli Occupation forces resulted in the tragic loss of his wife, son, and daughter, while the rest of his family is buried under the rubble,” the network said in a statement, adding the family had moved to the south after Israel asked Gaza civilians to vacate the north.

The network urged the international community to intervene and “put an end to these attacks on civilians, thereby safeguarding innocent lives”.

Israel’s intense bombardment of the densely populated Gaza Strip following the attack by Hamas, which controls Gaza, has killed more than 6,500 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s health ministry.

On 7 October, Hamas gunmen ran amok in southern Israel towns, killing 1,400 and taking over 200 hostages.
