Peshawar, Apr 1 (PTI) At least six persons were killed and two others injured when a gunman opened fire on a meeting of tribal elders in northwest Pakistan, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, where elders of the Istrana tribe had gone to meet Zulfiqar Marwat, a wanted suspect, to resolve a dispute over a snatched motorcycle, police said.
During the meeting, the suspect opened fire on the jirga members, killing six persons on the spot and injuring two others, police said.
Marwat fled the scene on a motorcycle. Later, police launched a search operation to nab him.
Marwat and his accomplices opened fire on the police when they raided a location following intelligence of their presence.
