On 22 April, 2025, terrorists killed 25 Indians—24 tourists and a Kashmiri local—and 1 Nepalese tourist at Baisaran meadows in Pahalgam before fleeing the tourist spot. Eyewitness accounts indicate victims were singled out on the basis of religion, shot at close range in front of their families.
At the time of the attack, PM Modi was in Saudi Arabia on an official visit and US Vice President JD Vance was visiting India. Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) offshoot The Resistance Front (TRF) claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Cabinet Committee of Security (CCS) chaired by PM Modi met the day after the attack and in a statement highlighted a potential link to Pakistan, saying “cross-border linkages of the terrorist attack were brought out”.
Congress foot-soldiers like Arfa Khanum Sherwani, Rana Ayub and The Wire first shamed Modi for not taking any action against terrorists. They questioned his claims of 56-inch chest. Worse still, Ms. Sherwani went to the extreme of asking Modi on X (formerly Twitter) to attack Pakistan and finish off the terrorists based out of there.
Now that Modi has done precisely that, they are trending #Deescalate on X. Every single one them mocked and jeered at Modi for not attacking Pakistan to avenge the Pahalgam deaths. Now that things have gone up the escalation ladder, they are asking Modi to deescalate.
The people of India can see through their duplicity and deceit. The sad and disappointing part is that platforms like The Print will never unmask these vested interests and Aman ka Tamasha types. Mr. Shekhar Gupta is too lenient on these anti-national elements.
