I think you also know what is the meaning of playing politics in this context. It means when you are opposing something just for the sake of opposing a government. There are plenty of opportunity to oppose and that should be based on the ideology, e.g. communist opposing privatization or congress opposing something on secularism. But when people negate their own stand just to oppose the government it dents their own credibility.
