For now, fugitive diamantaire Mehul Choksi is safe, at least till 1 July, when the Dominican court will decide whether he should be deported to India or Antigua and Barbuda.
MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi was replying to a batch of questions regarding fugitive businessman Choksi, who had fled to Antigua but was recently found in Dominica.
A Dominica magistrate said considering the 'severity' of the matter, she is not convinced Choksi will stay in the country to face legal proceedings and adjourned the matter till 14 June.
Indian officials in Delhi refused to confirm or deny whether a plane had been sent to Dominica where the 62-year-old Choksi was detained for illegal entry.
Efforts were on hand over Choksi to the Antigua Police, the local media reported. The fugitive businessman, wanted in the PNB bank fraud case, was missing since Sunday.
