BJP-Shiv Sena govt's legislation to introduce a Maratha quota was able to withstand the court's scrutiny, unlike the Congress-NCP govt's earlier ordinance.
The Bombay High Court recommended reducing the Maratha quota from 16% to 12-13%. The reservation will be in addition to the existing 52% overall reservation in the state.
Bill specifies that new quota will not affect the 52 per cent reservation existing for OBCs, SCs, STs and others. Move comes 5 months ahead of Lok Sabha polls.
